WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! FOLLOWING THIS PROCEDURE WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY AND MAY PERMANENTLY DAMAGE YOUR SPEED TOUCH DEVICE! APPLY STANDARD ANTISTATIC PRECAUTIONS... Symptoms: If the Power light turns orange, and stays that way, even after a forced restore to defaults, the flash file system may have become corrupted and the device will no longer boot. Opening the box: The two halves of the Speed Touch Home held together with four plastic clips and four screws with Torx T10 heads. The screws and one of the tabs are under the label on the bottom with the model and serial number information. Accessing the serial ports: Inside you will find a 20-pin 3M-style connector in the middle of the box with the pins numbered as follows: 11 20 -------------------------------- | o o o o o o o o o o | | o o o o o o o o o o | --^---------- ------------- 1 10 The important pins are: 16 - ground 18 - +3.3V 10 - RxDATA port_0 (input) 20 - TxDATA port_0 (output) 9 - RxDATA port_1 (input -- suspected, not confirmed!) 19 - TxDATA port_1 (output) The signals are inverted LVTTL-level 9600 bps 8N1 async data. You will need either an inverted LVTTL-level compatible serial port, or LVTTL-compatible RS-232/423 transceivers or level converters. One can be built from discrete components, or a transceiver chip like the MAX212 or possibly the MAX232 can be used. ***** DO NOT TRY CONNECTING THESE PINS DIRECTLY TO AN RS-232 ***** ***** SERIAL PORT! YOU WILL LIKELY DESTROY YOUR DEVICE! ***** Downloading files: You should see data from port_0, and eventually a prompt. If the prompt is '>', you are talking to its diagnostic shell. At this point, various commands should be available to you. fdisk, format, mkdir, and mount can be used to make and mount new flash file systems. After the file systems have been created and mounted, files can be downloaded with WXMODEM and the download command.
